About Mildred Rutledge

Mildred Rutledge Born 4 October 1919. Permanent home in Ottawa, Ontario since 1946. Currently resides in Chelsea, Québec. Largely self-taught, Millie has has painted in oils for many years: portrait, figure, and landscapes — the latter largely of the Gatineau Hills here in Québec. At the age of 103, she has almost a century of painting behind her! Most recently Millie has been working in watercolours. “I love watercolours for their transparency and spontaneity, combined with rich, expressive colour. I find great inspiration from painting the changing skies. Most of my landscapes start with a beautiful sky and the rest flows from that.” Current works are smaller moody landscapes and abstract compositions in watercolour and India ink.
